Hi there! My name is Missy Roberts and I am an aspiring photographer. Let me take a few minutes to tell you about myself. I am from Augusta, Ga. I graduated from North Greenville U. in Tigerville, SC with a BA in Mass Comm. I am the little sister of an amazing brother who is only a few years older and we both have the best parents who would do anything for us.

When I'm not taking pictures, or even making some videos, I like to do others activities. Some of these include archery, listening to music, hammocking, watching movies, practicing sign language, and especially spending time with friends and family.

I don't read a lot, but when I do I really like to go for Percy Jackson. I know it's for 12 year olds, but I really like mythology and how the author, Rick Riordan, incorporates it all into the story of a few unknowing demi-gods. Another book that captures my interest and that I am currently reading is the Harry Potter series. I know I'm a little late on those books, but I've never given them the time of day and have only watched the movies (please forgive me).

There are a lot of movies I like to watch, but my two favorites are Holes and The Lion King. Both of those movies have such fantastic story lines and so many elements that make me want to keep coming back to them. I also like movies such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Heavy Weights, Home Alone 1 & 2, and Donnie Darko, just to name a few. Now when it comes to TV shows, I have the same taste and some of those shows are Switched at Birth, Doctor Who, The Flash, and Arrow.

Music! Music is fantastic. There are so many genres out there, and most of them are wonderful...most. When I say most, I mean that I don't prefer every kind, for instance Country music is my least favorite. I can listen to it when nothing else is on, but that's about the only exception. The kind of music I listen to is mostly rock and rap. To give you an idea, some of my favorites are Switchfoot, Mumford and Sons, Marianas Trench, Owl City, Colton Dixon, Falling Up, Big Time Rush, and Lecrae.

At this point I'm sure you're tired of feeling like I'm applying to be your best friend, so let me explain more about my photos and where I want to go with my career. For a time, I worked at a photo studio in Franklin, TN called Portrait Innovations. It's a family and children studio giving each family custom portraits and packages. I would like to do video work as well, but right now photos are just fine. I think right now my favorite things to photograph are nature/still life and doing one-on-one shoots of people. Something else that I love to incorporate into my pictures is overexposure. I know that sounds weird, but when it's done just right, the picture will turn out just how I imagined and sometimes even better. I feel like letting in some extra light gives the picture a look that I would never be able to create on my own or even in photoshop. I also like having a very small aperture. I think that is something that really helps convey a message in my pictures about what I'm focusing on, literally and figuratively. It helps the viewer to see what I see and to get into my mind.
Eventually I would like to travel the world somehow and take pictures of places and people that i will most likely never see again, not just for memories, but to convey a thought or message. I think it's important to really take my time and plan out a shot, if I actually have time to do it, and make sure I'm not just throwing my camera in front of my face and clicking a button. I think with people it's even more important to show how they feel or what they're thinking. Not only do I want to take a person's picture, but I want to be able to use that to talk to them and get to know them. It's important to be personable to someone that I will photograph and probably not see again. I want them to feel like I'm being real and not just stealing their time and borrowing their face.
Like I said before, I still have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying every minute of learning from my professors, friends, and my own experiences. I know this is what God has called me to do with my life. I know where I'm at right now in my current abilities, but where I'm going will be a totally new adventure, I just have to let God take me there. I know that whatever it is, it's going to be amazing.
